McBurnie ("Burnie") McLure | 1923 USPC
Wheeling, WV | Delivered to Charles M. Hancher, Wheeling, WV
McLure's father John started the
McLure Hotel in Wheeling in the 1852 (he had
been a riverboat captain and in the steamship business out of
Wheeling before then).
Burnie McLure was the proprietor
of the Hotel in 1920 and I assume was still there when the chips were
ordered in 1923 (he visited Cuba in 1923). Burnie died
in 1928 in Miami Beach. He was 70. The McLure is active
to this day (2010). Here is a link to the McLure Hotel's
history from its website:
McLure
History.
Charles Hancher, through whom the chips were ordered, was a jeweler in Wheeling--his store was located across the street from the McLure Hotel. |
