OCC was originally developed as a golf club for
Jews (organized 1905). For several months prior to
the chip order, Oakwood fully overhauled its golf
course making it one of the best in Cleveland.
In 1930 the Cleveland Plain Dealer described Oakwood
as “one of the most influential clubs in the Midwest
and always has a large waiting list for its
membership of 300.”
In 1930 the OCC voted to bring into its club the
membership of an old Jewish social club called the
Excelsior Club. In 1930 they also they
planned a major addition to the club house.
